Philly Highs and Lows
It was indeed sunny in Philadelphia on Saturday, but the unfortunate result of the game clouded our outlook.
Despite an early goal from Zoltan Stieber that raised the excitement level and the hopes of all United supporters (including many in the stands), the Black-and-Red left Philly without any points this weekend.
Stieber's goal was United's only shot for much of the game. The visitors spent too much of the game in their own half and their own box, with predictable results.
After giving up a tying goal in the 37th, United allowed Philly's CJ Sapong way too much space in the box in the 60th, and his header found the back of the net.
A lovely ball in from Stieber and a beautiful one-touch strike into the net from Darren Mattocks (his third goal of the season) tied things up with roughly twenty minutes left to play, but less than two minutes later, United gave up yet another goal, and the match finished 3-2.
Coach Ben Olsen, speaking to reporters, said that he is "not too alarmed", but with United facing nothing but road games until Audi Field opens in July, many fans are more than a little nervous.
The good news? Zoltan Stieber provided both a goal and an assist this weekend, and he and Darren Mattocks looked good together.
In addition, defender Frederic Brillant has received his Green Card, so he no longer occupies an international slot on the roster. Will United use that newly freed spot? Time will tell...
