United Roundup

An early goal from Paul Arriola proved thrilling, but the Black-and-Red were unable to maintain their momentum last Saturday, falling to Real Salt Lake by a 3-2 margin.

While we're pleased (kinda) for former United GK Nick Rimando, who earned his 200th win, we sorely wish it could have been at the expense of another team!

United continues to the West Coast this coming weekend, as they take on San Jose Saturday night. Last week San Jose's Chris Wondolowski scored his 132nd goal, and took sole possession of the MLS record for most goals in league history for a single franchise. Given that the record he broke formerly belonged to our very own Jaime Moreno (who was recently inducted into the Washington D.C. Sports Hall of Fame), we would argue that this insult cannot go unnoticed!

In the News

Reports indicate English superstar Wayne Rooney, currently of Everton, may soon be shedding his blues in favor of Black-and-Red. The Washington Post's Steven Goff reports that Rooney will likely be traveling to D.C. this month for a visit and physical.

The prospect of Rooney joining United was introduction for a minor tirade from ESPN's Taylor Twellman this weekend. The commentator and former MLS striker took the organization to task, asserting that Rooney's arrival would not solve the problems of an understaffed and underpaid front office.

DC SCORES and More

Tomorrow is one of the most important DC SCORES fundraising days of the year: Do More 24! From Thursday at noon until Friday at noon, DC SCORES hopes to raise a total of $10,000 from small donors. Over twenty schools in the region are on the waiting list to have their own DC SCORES program, but expanding the organization takes resources. Every little bit helps - please give what you can!

DC SCORES alumnae made it all the way to Russia, where they are competing this week in the Street Child World Cup. We're so proud of these girls!

If you'd like to be a little more hands-on with your volunteer efforts, we've got a spot for you. The DC SCORES Jamboree is coming up on June 2nd, and volunteers are needed, so sign up!

You can even help DC SCORES out and expand your United memorabilia collection at the same time. Visit our store to purchase a 1996 D.C. United Inaugural Pennant - proceeds will be donated to DC SCORES.
