Open [Cup] and Shut
Screaming Eagles Events
Thanks to all who came out to share their thoughts and questions at last Sunday's supporter town hall, hosted by @DCUSupporters.
In case you missed the news last week, say hello to our newest board member: Jean Kasner! Jean is a longtime member of the United supporter community, and we are delighted that she has joined the board. Jean replaces outgoing board member Danielle Lafave, who will continue as a regular volunteer.
For more updates, have a look at our events calendar.
DC SCORES and More
We are saddened to report that due to Mother Nature's never-ending rainstorms, last weekend's DC SCORES Jamboree was canceled. Our thanks to those of you who had planned to volunteer- we hope that you will consider donating your time later this year at the DC SCORES Fall Frenzy! More details to come as they are available, but you can check out last year's event here.
Next up for DC SCORES is the DC SCORES Cup, the largest annual charity soccer tournament in the D.C. region. Over 700 participants from 50 companies are scheduled to play this year! If you're interested in registering a team, there's still time.
In the News
According to reports this week , D.C. United and Everton have agreed upon a deal relating to Wayne Rooney's transfer, with the remaining negotiations to be had between United and the striker himself. As of newsletter press time, no further announcements had been made, but this is a promising development.
Tickets are available for the National Women's Soccer League game to be played at Audi Field this August! The Washington Spirit, home to USWNT's stars such as Rose Lavelle, Ashley Hatch, and Mallory (PewPewPew) Pugh, will host the reigning NWSL champion Portland Thorns.
Portland features an impressive roster of their own that includes USWNT players Tobin Heath and Emily Sonnett, as well as legendary Canadian striker Christine Sinclair. Don't miss out!
In Open Cup news, we [just barely] made it! Last night United struck first in their match against USL side North Carolina FC, but a tying goal was allowed in the second half, and the game went to penalties. GK David Ousted saved one NC shot, and another hit the crossbar. United missed only one PK, and squeaked by, 4-3.
For crowd photos from last night's game, check out our album. United's opponent for the 5th round will be announced on Thursday.
Unfortunately, the Richmond Kickers did not have nearly as close of a game in their Open Cup match last night, giving up four first-half goals to the Philadelphia Union and falling 5-0.
Next: It's back to the left coast we go, as D.C. takes on Seattle this weekend!

The USWNT, having just added the Washington Spirit's Rose Lavelle back into the mix, takes on China in a friendly tomorrow night. So much soccer - we love it!
