Screaming Eagles Events
Stay tuned...we've got some exciting tailgate news coming later this week! More than that, we cannot say just yet, but we appreciate your patience.
How about a movie? Now playing at the Avalon DC: "Nossa Chappe," a spellbinding documentary about the Brazilian Chapacoense soccer team, whose plane crashed en route to the 2016 Copa Sudamericana. This film, which premiered at SXSW, tells not only the story of the team and its tragedy, but how the remaining players, staff, and community rebuilt the team.
"Nossa Chappe" is only in town through Thursday, so get your tickets now!

DC SCORES and More
This weekend, how about some youth soccer for a good cause? The family of Thomas McDermott, a player for the D.C. United Academy U-15 team, was recently in a car accident. To raise funds on their behalf, a tournament is being held this Sunday.
6v6 Tournament to benefit the McDermott Family
Sunday, June 17th; 9 am - 6 pm
12601 Smoketown Road, Woodbridge, VA
$200 per team; 3 games guaranteed per team
Prizes for the winner of each of four divisions: 2008/9, 2006/7, 2004/5, 2002/3.
To register, call Jamis Garay (703-403-9529) or Danilo Garay (701-401-2455). Even if you're not a player or a parent of a player, you can still help out - food and drinks, as well as merchandise, will be sold at this event, with all proceeds to benefit the McDermott family.
While we're on the subject of tournaments, June 23rd is the date for the DC SCORES Cup! This is the largest annual charity soccer tournament in the Washington, D.C. region. Over 700 participants from 50 companies are scheduled to play at the Maryland Soccerplex. Teams are co-ed and 7v7. If you're interested in registering a team, there's still time!
In the News
It's almost time for the World Cup! While it isn't quite the same for many of us without the USMNT to cheer for, there's plenty of action to be had starting this Thursday, so enjoy! As SB Nation notes, this is the last time we'll see 32 teams in this tournament - the 2022 World Cup in Qatar will look very different.
The Wayne Rooney situation is still in flux, with at least one English tabloid reporting that Everton's new coach no longer wants him. True? Perhaps, but as of newsletter publication time, the striker had not yet swapped his Blues for a Black-and-Red kit.
We're excited to spend some time with our friends in the Spirit Squadron this August when the National Women's Soccer League comes to Audi Field! The Washington Spirit is home to several USWNT players (including Andi Sullivan and Rose Lavelle), and international stars such as Argentina's Estefania Banini and Nigeria's Francisca Ordega. The Spirit will host the Portland Thorns, the 2017 NWSL champions. Don't miss it!
You can also preview the Spirit this weekend as they host the Seattle Reign. Join the fun for the Spirit Squadron's Pride Night!

On the Field
United's poor track record in Seattle continued on Saturday, as they squandered a 1-0 lead. A lovely assist from Zoltan Stieber set Darren Mattocks up for his team-leading 6th goal of the year, but it was not enough, as Seattle scored four minutes later, and then again in the 83rd minute. Congratulations to David Ousted on his 150th MLS appearance!
Next: A midweek battle between United and last season's champions, Toronto FC. After sinking much of their early-season efforts into a bid to win the CONCACAF Champions' League, Toronto is now focused on MLS, and is looking to claw its way back up the Eastern Conference standings.

In a surprising and delightful turn, a youthful USMNT held their own in Lyon over the weekend, scoring first against a World Cup-bound French national team and earning a hard-fought draw.
Tuesday night the USWNT had a battle of their own against China. The Washington's Spirit Rose Lavelle, on her way back from injury, saw roughly a half hour of field time as the USA walked away with a 2-1 victory.
