Let's Crush It in Philly
D.C. United's off week is over, and this weekend the team is headed to the City of Brotherly Love! United takes on the Philadelphia Union for the first time this season, although the two did face off earlier this year in the preseason Suncoast Invitational.
United and Philly are currently keeping each other company at the bottom of the Eastern Conference table, each with a 1-3-2 record. The Black-and-Red lead slightly on goal differential. United is also leading off a long away stretch, as they will be playing solely on the road until Audi Field opens in mid-July.
Philly is once again planning "demolition activities" prior to Saturday's Rivalry Night match, and they look to be having a little too much fun promoting their endeavors. We would certainly prefer that United be the one doing all the crushing on this weekend!

While they officially had an off week, Ben Olsen kept his team busy last week with a pair of local scrimmages.
In 60-minute match against the Maryland Terrapins, Olsen rotated (a mic'd up) Steven Birnbaum, Kofi Opare, and Frederic Brillant through at CB, and the United defense made things easy for Steven Clark in goal. The best chance came as a header from former Terp Patrick Mullins, but United was unable to hit the back of the net.
The Black-and-Red had better luck facing off against the Richmond Kickers. Striker Dane Kelly, who has been on loan to the Kickers this season, scored a brace for United, who defeated Richmond 3-1. We hope to see more of Kelly on the pitch this season!

Keeping it Green
In celebration of Earth Day and MLS Greener Goals Week, local volunteers and members of the D.C. United front office joined Anacostia Riverkeepers last weekend to paint murals on storm drains near Audi Field. The new murals remind the public that the drains lead to local waterways, and that pollutants should not be dumped into them.
