Screaming Eagles Events

We hope that you had a blast over the long weekend, despite the wet weather. Thanks to those who came out to join us Sunday afternoon for a showing of "SOLO: A Star Wars Story." Next up: the DC SCORES Jamboree!

Saturday 6/2 @ 8am: DC SCORES Jamboree!

Sunday 6/3 @ 2:30 pm: Supporters Town Hall

  • More info below in the "news" section

  • This is not an SE event, but we believe all interested supporters should have the opportunity to attend!

We'd also like to take this opportunity to welcome our newest board member: Jean Kasner! Many of you already know Jean, as she is a longtime member of the United supporter community. She is creative, thoughtful, and enthusiastic, and we are excited to have her! Jean replaces outgoing board member Danielle Lafave, who will continue her volunteer efforts helping to reorganize and facilitate our online presence.

DC SCORES and More

This Saturday is the biggest DC SCORES event of the year: the Jamboree! This is an all-day community festival and soccer tournament. Volunteers are still needed for activity booths, photographing games, serving lunch, setting up events, and more.

Come spend a Saturday and meet some of the inspiring kids, teachers, and coaches (including our very own Laurie Gonzalez) who participate in DC SCORES. Take a few hours out of your day to help make theirs!

In America SCORES news, the latest issue of Kicker! magazine is out, featuring original poetry of SCORES poet-athletes from a number of schools and program sites in the U.S. and Canada. Also featured: an letter to the kids of DC SCORES from ESPN's Sebastian Salazar, and an interview with Washington Spirit midfielder and activist Joanna Lohman.

In the News

Wayne Rooney spent over 36 hours in Washington last week, including a long phone call with United coach Ben Olsen. Rooney visited Audi Field, had a sit-down with GM Dave Kaspar, and toured various neighborhoods and golf courses in the area. Sounds promising...

Speaking of Audi Field and its future, you are invited to a town hall meeting this Sunday, hosted by a group of fellow United supporters. This is not an official SE event, although there will be SE members in attendance. Visit the organizers' Twitter feed for more information.

United Roundup

United striker Darren Mattocks lived up to his promise to "rob the Banc" last weekend, as his late-game goal allowed the Black-and-Red to steal a point from LAFC.

In a wild game full of controversial calls (and non-calls), Paul Arriola was also a standout, earning himself a spot on the bench of the MLS Team of the Week.
