We're also breaking in our new tailgate location on the Anacostia this Saturday! In case you missed the announcement, we'll be partying before games at the Earth Conservation Corps' Matthew Henson Center. This sweet spot is just a short (2 block) walk from Audi Field. Tailgates start 4 hours before game time, so this weekend's tailgate will begin at 4 pm.
Current SE members drink for free; non-members can partake with the purchase of a one-day tailgate membership. This weekend's food trucks will be Sloppy Mama's (BBQ), DC Slices (pizza), and Quize Quzeen (Syrian). Kick back and enjoy beautiful river views - please join us!
DC SCORES and More
Last Friday, DC SCORES students from Leckie Elementary School took a field trip (and for many, their first boat ride as well) to meet our friends at the Earth Conservation Corps. They had a blast learning all about the Anacostia River, as well as meeting some of the amazing raptors that live at the ECC. You can meet the raptors too, when you come to one of our tailgates!
We're excited to have helped facilitate this connection between the ECC and DC SCORES, and we can't wait to see more students take part! If you're interested in volunteering with us for DC SCORES and/or the Earth Conservation Corps, please let us know.

It is with greatest sorrow that we report the passing of longtime community member Bob Brown. Bob was a well-known and passionate supporter of D.C. United, Liverpool, and the U.S. national teams. His presence will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, his family has requested that donations in his memory be sent to the Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation. There will also be an Irish wake this Friday - once details are available, we will post them for those who wish to attend.
In the News
It's official - Audi Field is open for business! Monday afternoon saw the official ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a housewarming party. Speakers at the ceremony included D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, United Captain Steven Birnbaum, and of course, newest team member Wayne Rooney.
A number of players (including Rooney, Yamil Asad, Paul Arriola, Luciano Acosta and Chris Durkin) stuck around after the ceremony to pose for photos and sign autographs for fans both big and small - including kids from DC SCORES. You can check out the United photo album here. Thanks to all those who attended!

The transfer window opened yesterday, meaning newly-signed English striker Wayne Rooney will be officially eligible to play this weekend when Audi Field opens. In a recent interview, Rooney was quoted as saying: “I think the right thing for me to do is to show the league the respect it deserves. I think the quality is a lot better than what I thought.”

Patrick Mullins has been traded to the Columbus Crew in exchange for $150K in TAM. Mullins, who was traded to D.C. in 2016 (from NYCFC) has seen little playing time so far this season, and with Wayne Rooney's arrival, getting more field time was likely to be an uphill battle. We wish him well!

The World Cup Final is set! This Sunday, France will take on Croatia in what promises to be a highly entertaining match. France last won the World Cup in 1998, and finished as Runners-up in 2006. Croatia, who came from behind to stun England in today's semifinal match, will be playing in their first-ever World Cup final. Whether you're wearing red or blue this Sunday, we hope you enjoy the game!
On the Field
United's 4th of July road trip ended with a bang last week, as they battled back from an early two-goal deficit to steal a point from the Galaxy. L.A. had a pair of admittedly nice goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and former United player Chris Pontius, but Zoltan Steiber scored almost immediately after Pontius did to narrow the gap. Darren Mattocks continued his career-high scoring trend, working his way past three defenders inside the box to tie the game in the 85th minute. Luciano Acosta also had a fantastic game, causing no end of trouble for the Galaxy.
Silver Linings: The look on Zlatan's face when he realized the Galaxy weren't getting 3 points.
Next: We all know what's next. The Black-and-Red will open Audi Field this Saturday with a match against the Vancouver Whitecaps. United currently sits thirteen points below the playoff cutoff line, but has also played at least three fewer games than any other team in MLS. Can this weekend be the start of a serious turnaround? We hope so!
