What fun! Thanks to all those who came out to last weekend's tailgate, featuring special guest Rog from Men in Blazers! Rog took questions, posed for photos, and was a generally awesome guest.* He also brought two signed jerseys to auction off, which raised nearly $400 for DC SCORES! Before heading out to attend Sunday's match, he even started a new chant that just might catch on... *thanks to Douglas Reyes-Ceron for the video clip
Hoping for a tailgate this weekend too? All are Welcome to join the Spirit Squadron (supporters group for the Washington Spirit) for their tailgate at Bardo Beer, ahead of Saturday's NWSL match at Audi Field:

Hey you! We need your help! Do you work for a company that makes and/or installs awnings? We're looking to have an awning installed over the back deck at the ECC, so that visitors can enjoy beautiful Anacostia River views even when it's rainy out. If you or your company can help, please send us an email!

Sunday was also a special day for Gavin Smith, a 10-year old boy from Maryland. Thanks to D.C. United and the Make-a-Wish foundation, Gavin, who has long dreamed of becoming a professional soccer player, toured the stadium and the locker room last week.
Gavin, who struggles with a chronic immune disorder, met the team and helped out as ball boy during practice. He was given his own jersey and assigned a locker as part of a signing to the team! Captain Wayne Rooney also gave Gavin the customized guitar he won last month for his Man of the Match performance against Colorado.
Gavin even posed in the team photo Sunday. We think he looks pretty snazzy in black, don't you?

Donations are still needed to help longtime United supporter Big Rob cover medical and living expenses in his battle against leukemia. We cannot understate how important Rob has been and continues to be to the D.C. United community. Please pitch in today!
In the News
The Spirit lineup features USWNT players Rose Lavelle, Mallory Pugh, Andi Sullivan, Ashley Hatch, and Taylor Smith, plus beloved NWSL figures like Joanna Lohman (our coin-flipper from Sunday) and slide-tackling queen Estelle Johnson.
This match is going to be huge for the Spirit and for the National Women's Soccer League as a whole, so come show your support!

In related news, yesterday the Spirit fired Coach Jim Gabarra, a change that had been a long time in coming. Will this spark improved performance on the pitch? We can only hope so - come find out Saturday!
On the Field
Nope, we haven't stopped grinning ear-to-ear since Sunday's match. How about you?
Luciano Acosta is on FIRE and he did it again last weekend, pouncing on a lovely cross from Paul Arriola to put United up by one in the first half. After multiple close attempts, a long ball from Junior Moreno unleashed Zoltan Stieber on New England in the 89th minute. Stieber then reminded us how absolutely delightful his goal celebration is. Newly-returned GK Bill Hamid earned his (and the team's) first Audi Field shutout and his 50th career clean sheet. Congrats, Bill!
The best part is that this on came the heels of an absolute shellacking of the Portland Timbers midweek. Two goals from Captain Wayne Rooney, Oniel Fisher's first MLS goal, and a stoppage time strike from Darren Mattocks against his former team, just to put the icing on the cake. That was FUN.
Nine points in a single week. United now sits six points behind Montreal and a playoff berth, with four games in hand. Folks, this is actually happening. What is this sensation...could it be...hope? Do we dare?
