Kicking it Off
Let's Meet Up
And we're back! We hope you're enjoying the new year, cold and snowy though it may be.
There are just 44 days (of course we counted) until D.C. United starts the MLS season off with a visit from defending champions Atlanta United! Although the stands at Audi are quiet for now, it's busy as can be behind the scenes.
On that subject, please join us for our Annual Members Meeting, next month! We'll discuss the upcoming season and the direction of the club. Plus, United GM Dave Kasper will be stopping by for a Q&A with members. And if that weren't enough, we're holding a fantastic raffle featuring sweet United memorabilia!

DC SCORES and More
Our friends at DC SCORES are hard at work, and their Winter SCORES session is in full swing! This is a six-week, soccer and nutrition program taking place at three local elementary schools and one middle school.
According to DC SCORES, the aim of Winter Scores is "to get kids thinking about the choices they make when it comes to nutrition and showcase the importance of combining exercise with nutrition for a healthy lifestyle. Participating poet-athletes get the opportunity to learn about nutrition in a fun way with hands-on activities and cooking sessions."
Sounds both fun and delicious!

Comings and Goings
The United roster has seen many changes in the last few weeks, so let's recap:
Draft Picks Akeem Ward (D) (pictured), Shinya Kadono (F), and Leandro Alves (M)
Homegrown Antonio Bustamante (F) While all four are potentially exciting, don't be surprised if they end up playing for USL affiliate Loudoun United this year.
New goalkeepers Chris Seitz (Houston) and Earl Edwards Jr. (Orlando City) Seitz is the more experienced GK, and is largely expected to feature as Bill Hamid's primary backup.
Lucas "Titi" Rodriguez (M), on loan from Argentina's Estudiantes
Coach Ben Olsen, under contract 'til 2021.
Darren Mattocks Selected by FC Cincinnati in the expansion draft.
Nick DeLeon Could not come to contract agreement w/United; signed by Toronto FC in re-entry draft.
Kofi Opare Although Opare has recovered from his knee injury, United recently declined to exercise his contract option. May be headed to Colorado.
Ian Harkes After being released by DCU, Harkesy has signed a two-year contract with Dundee Utd. in Scotland.
Dane Kelly After becoming the all-time leading USL goal-scorer, the Jamaican striker has signed with Indy Eleven.
Travis Worra United did not renew his contract.
Vytas After acquiring him from Portland, United did not exercise his contract option.
Jared Jeffries Contract option not exercised.
The Suspense is Killing Us
Yamil Asad Asad has expressed a desire to stay at Argentine club Velez Sarsfield, but negotiations with the Black-and-Red are reportedly still ongoing.
David Ousted DCU hopes to unload the GK's contract, but so far no takers.
Zoltan Steiber Our star Hungarian has not seen enough playing time to justify his million-dollar salary, so the team is reportedly entertaining trade offers.
Leonardo Jara As of Thursday night, RB Jara of Boca Juniors (and a former teammate of Lucho's) was reported to be on the verge of signing with United. The Portland Timbers are also interested.
Donovan Pines This star defender at Maryland is in negotiations with DCU, and would be an excellent signing.
Still need season tickets? We've still got space in the Perch (SEction 130). There are about 100 Screaming Eagles already in the section, and we have room for a few more! A season ticket will cost you $660 ($33/game) plus a $20 service fee. Email our ticket mistress if interested.
