Show Your True Colors

It's June, and that means Pride Month! We're excited to showcase upcoming matches and events that we hope you'll be as thrilled about as we are.

All Welcome, All United!

Take the Pledge - #SvH

This month, the Independent Supporters Council, of which SE is a member, is asking supporters far and wide to take a stand against homophobia in soccer, and to take the pledge.

You can post video online of yourself reading the pledge, or a photo with the text "I took the pledge" and the #SvH2019 hashtag. Many Screaming Eagles have already taken the pledge - please join us!

Saturday 6/22: Spirit Pride Night

The Washington Spirit is a founding member of the National Women's Soccer League, which was established in 2012. Since the team's inception, Spirit supporters, many of whom hail from the LGBTQ+ community, have requested an official Pride Night. This year, for the first time, their wish has been granted!

Please join us and our friends in the Spirit Squadron in cheering on the team and celebrating their very first team Pride Night! The team is currently at the top of the table, and they are tons of fun to watch!

Tickets for the match are available here. To sit in the Supporters' Section with or near the Squadron, select GA tickets. What better way to celebrate the Women's World Cup than with some live women's soccer?

Saturday 6/22: Celebrating a Hometown Hero

The 22nd is exciting for another reason as well. The Spirit are officially retiring the #15 jersey of our friend and United supporter, midfielder Joanna Lohman!

Jo, who announced her retirement from pro soccer in April at the start of the NWSL season, has long been a leader on the team. As profiled by Steven Goff at WaPo, this "Rainbow Warrior" is also a traveling sports diplomat and an active advocate for human rights locally and internationally, especially in the LGBTQ+ community. This year, Jo is also serving alongside the Black-and-Red's Bill Hamid as an ambassador for DC SCORES!

Jo is commemorating the occasion with a special, limited-edition clothing line that celebrates both her retirement and her newest project. "Define Your Beauty" is an online course focused on "personal development and radical acceptance", and we can't think of a more inspirational teacher!

10% of the proceeds from each clothing item sold will be donated to The Trevor Project which provides suicide prevention and crisis intervention services to LGBTQ+ youth. Order your shirt ASAP before it's too late, and help us celebrate Jo at the match!

We also bring a message to all of you, from Joanna herself:

When the Washington Spirit hosts the Houston Dash on Saturday, June 22nd at the Maryland Soccerplex, the Spirit will officially retire my #15 jersey. I will be the first player in Spirit history to have her jersey retired - meaning the #15 will forever be held as tribute to my contributions to the club both on and off the field. How rad is that?!

This ALSO happens to be the Spirit's first ever official Pride Night. It will be such an amazing night and I would be honored to have the Screaming Eagles there to support all the rainbow awesomeness. You all have been a big part of my journey and this invitation is personal!

So, please come! Sing, dance, scream, bang on drums, and JUMP! I want to pack those stands and have the neighbors call in noise complaints. And, of course, the after party will be ON and poppin' at A League of Her Own/Pitchers in Adams Morgan. Schedule that babysitter!!!!

Sending all of my love.

~Jo

Wednesday 6/25: United Night Out

The end of the month at Audi Field brings the 9th annual United Night Out celebration! Presented by Visit St. Pete/Clearwater and hosted by the Federal Triangles Soccer Club (FTSC), this match (DC v Orlando) will be chock full of moments celebrating the LGBTQ+ community and greater inclusion in soccer. Break out your Pride jerseys and your rainbow scarves!

We'll be tailgating with FTSC ahead of the match as well. If you're not already getting your tickets for the game through us (or if you forget and wait until we're sold out) we suggest purchasing from FTSC. $1 from every ticket they sell for United Night Out will be donated to DC SCORES!

Speaking of colors, if you haven't gotten your tickets yet to see the Red, White and Blue this week, what are you waiting for? Join us and the American Outlaws as we cheer on the USMNT against Jamaica this Wednesday at 8 pm!

Supporters' Section tickets at $29 ea (while supplies last) at this link with code SEDCMNT.

You will have to set up an account if you do not yet have one.
