Bonus Coverage: Croix Bethune

ree

It was a quiet weekend on the DC United front. DC's reserves lost a 3-0 friendly to the Ethiopian National Team on Saturday night (August 2), while most of the rest of the league played Mexican teams in the Leagues Cup.

However, the Washington Spirit returned from a month off to score in stoppage time and defeat the Portland Thorns, 2-1 on Sunday (August 3) at Audi Field. US national team star Trinity Rodman came off the bench and scored the winning goal, garnering national headlines, especially since it was her first game in 3 months due to back issues.

Rodman is great, but the goal was created by her teammate Croix Bethune, who has amazing passing skills. Watch the sequence below, or check it out at around 9:10 on the game highlights. It's a thing of beauty, worthy of any attacking midfielder in the world, and no one seems to be mentioning it, so I am.

That's why we watch the "beautiful game".
