DC lost to the New York Red Bulls last night (May 24), 2-0 at Audi Field.
DC started
Barraza in goal
Schnegg, Rowles, Bartlett, Tubbs, Herrera in defense
Peglow, Enow, Servania, Kijima in midfield
Murrell at forward
Subs: Peltola for Tubbs (halftime), Hopkins for Servania (halftime), Stroud for Kijima (60th), Fletcher for Murrell (60th), Pirani for Hopkins(72nd).
With Benteke still out with an ankle injury, DC remained relatively toothless. The goals from the US Open Cup game Wednesday night were nowhere to be seen. The best chance for DC was in the 19th minute when Murrell had an open shot from near the penalty spot but he wasn't able to get anything on it.
Barraza made a beautiful save on New York's Emil Forsberg in the 10th minute, and DC's defense held firm until the 42nd minute, when New York took advantage of a defensive mistake and Cameron Harper scored a nice shot in off the far post. It was 1-0 Red Bulls at halftime.
DC had more possession in the second half, but still were unable to seriously threaten the goal. Barraza kept draw hopes alive in the 94rd minute with a brilliant double save, but less than a minute later Mohammed Sofo juked past two defenders and scored easily to seal the win for New York.
The last week of a hectic May has two more matches. First, DC hosts the New England Revolution on Wednesday (May 28) at 730pm at Audi Field. Then DC travels to FC Cincinnati on Saturday, May 31 at 730pm. With MLS's asymmetric schedule, DC will have played half their league games by the end of the month, even though the regular season doesn't end until October 18.
