The MLS playoffs are in full swing, and so are offseason moves for DC United. DC has already declined contract options for the entire goalkeeping roster (Alex Bono, Tyler Miller, Luis Zamudio and Nate Crockford), leaving the Black and Red without a single keeper. Bono’s salary was only $200K, so it must have been more than pay cap issues. I thought he was a decent goalie playing with a porous defense. Hopefully there are some new goalies on the way.
Martin Rodriguez, Christian Dajome, Christopher McVey, Jeremy Garey and Hayden Sargis also had their options declined, so they will also be gone in 2025. Russell Canouse and Pedro Santos are free agents and are unlikely to return.
DC did exercise two options (Aaron Herrera and Garrison Tubbs) so those players will be returning next year.
There are 15 other players who are under contract for 2025:
Defenders Matai Akinmboni, Conner Antley, Lucas Bartlett and David Schnegg
Midfielders Boris Enow, Jackson Hopkins, Mateusz Klich and Matti Peltola
Forwards Dominique Badji, Christian Benteke, Kristian Fletcher, Ted Ku-DiPietro, Jacob Murrell, Gabriel Pirani and Jared Stroud
However, Fletcher (loaned to the English Premier League’s Nottingham Forest) and Akinmboni (being pursued by the Premier League’s Bournemouth) may not be returning.
I'm pretty sure there are more moves to come between now and the start of next season.
